Cool Kids Care Reviews

CBC REVIEW

Veteran illusionist Greg Wood is back with a new bag of tricks and he’s still a whiz when it comes to keeping a crowd of kids spellbound.

Wood is a top-notch sleight of hand artist, making streamers, scarves and balls appear out of thin air. While the kids (and adults) are trying to figure out just how he pulled that off, he slips in stories and advice on how to handle bullies and peer pressure. It’s all done with such skill, good humour, and ease the kids probably don’t even notice they’re getting schooled. That’s the real magic of this show.

Suitable for ages five and up, this presentation by children’s entertainer Greg Wood uses simple sleight-of-hand magic tricks to entertain the kiddies while talking to them about bullying, as well as what is caring behaviour and what isn’t.

Wood has been doing this sort of thing for 20 years, and it shows, as he manages to engage a large audience of varying little personality types.

Your unique style of relaying your message through magic and illusion kept our students engaged and motivated throughout your forty-five-minute presentation. I cannot stress enough how important it is for our student body to hear why bullying is wrong from not only our staff but also from outside speakers such as yourself.
– Lawrence Solinski – School Counsellor – George Waters Middle School

I loved the way you were able to deal with an important and sensitive issue in a kid-friendly way. I would recommend this show to any school group that wants their students to think about these important messages.

“The kindergarten to grade eight students were engaged and entertained in the Cool Kids Care presentation.  The anti-bullying message resonated with the students and affirmed our school’s anti-bullying message.  The theme was intertwined with captivating magic that immersed the students in the presentation.  We would have Greg Wood back at our school.”

-Sean Brannen – St. Edward School

“Greg and his wife Oonaugh presented Cool Kids Care to our school for the second time.  Our students benefitted from the first presentation and we did not hesitate when a chance arose to have Greg come back to our school.  Cool Kids Care is a highly engaging presentation for students that targets positive behaviour and anti-bullying.  Greg’s ability to capture and keep an audience’s attention allows for his great message to be received and remembered well by students of all ages at our pre-kindergarten to grade 8 school.”

-Chad Fingler – Principal, St. Mary’s School

“ We were so glad we choose to book Greg and Oonaugh Wood for their ‘Cool Kids Care’ presentation. They held the attention of a room of 200 people with a seamless magic show. The messages of the different ways that bullies try to be mean to kids really came through well and students got the message loud and clear.  This was the best investment we have made in a presentation around anti-bullying we have ever made. Thanks again for the great show and great life lessons.”

“Amazing, how did he do that? and wow! Our SCC sponsored the ‘Cool Kids Care’ presentation and we are so glad they did. We are a K-8 school and every student sat on the edge of their seat watching for how the magic was done. The anti-bullying message came through and it stuck as many students still associate the show with the message about caring for others. Thank you for the education and the entertainment wrapped in a great delivery to our students and staff. Greg also recommended a change to our assemblies which we now use on a regular basis. This couple really cares about making a difference, not just the show.”

-Hillcrest School

“Our students and staff were thrilled with your presentation and the message you carried with it.  You captivated the audience and excited everyone. There is momentum right within the children to become a bully-free school. I was visiting with the grade 5 class shortly after your presentation and they were making anti-bully posters and discussing where bullying happens and how they could help stop it. I asked if any of the students would like to be a part of our own HERO anti-bullying team within the school and every hand went up, even students that had previously taken part in bullying. The desire to end bullying must come from the children and your presentation was a tremendous motivation for our students to take charge and be the ones that make that difference.

“Greg is a dynamic speaker and presenter and the students loved him. I was impressed with the messages he was able to convey by using magical tricks.  The magic also had every student listening and watching.  He certainly caught the students’ attention and kept them attending through his entire presentation.

His message consisted of getting students to know what types of bullying can occur, how to deal with it, and how to help stop it.  He used the whole audience, individual volunteers and even some staff members throughout the presentation.  With each point, he used the aids of a magical trick—very powerful.

I would certainly recommend this presentation to help students understand the importance of “Banding Together for a Bully Free School.”  Don’t hesitate to call me if you would like more information.”
